"Jesus - Son of God, Lord of All" - Study Questions

FOR USE IN OUR CURRENT SERMON SERIES ON THE APOSTLES' CREED

1. Read John 1:18 and John 3:16 in their context and discuss the significance of the phrase "only Son" (monogenes in Greek; translated as “only begotten Son” in the King James Bible).

2. How does John 1:1-2 help explain the doctrine of the Trinity? Why is the doctrine of the Trinity an essential Christian doctrine? How would our faith and the practice of our faith be affected if we neglect this doctrine?

3. Look over Matthew 1:17-25. Write out your understanding of the name "Jesus" and the title "Christ". Look up related passages if necessary.

4. Is recognizing Jesus as Lord essential for salvation (see Romans 10:9-10)? Why or why not?

5. How is one even able to sincerely confess Jesus as Lord (see 1 Corinthians 12:3)? What does this mean and how should it impact the way you view your own salvation and evangelism to others?

6. What are the practical and real-life implications of the Lordship of Christ, especially as it relates to Christian discipleship? What are some areas of your own life that need to be brought more under the Lordship of Christ? Spend some time praying about these things with other believers.

Bonus question:
-Listen to the Backpack Radio program titled "The Sonship of Christ" where some of the Roosevelt pastors discuss the meaning of the title "Son of God” (Show date: 12/04/2011). For extra credit, write down 3-4 key points made in the show.
